Copies of each are available to take home.

If there is additional information anyone is seeking please ask one of your Holly Ridge speech therapists: Judy, Kay, or Pam. We would be happy to provide more information or talk about any questions or concerns families may have.

HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATES

Wash Those Hands!

Good handwashing habits can protect you and your family from illnesses like colds, flu and diarrhea caused by bacterial or viral infections. Always wash hands before touching food and after using the bathroom, changing diapers or playing with a pet. Wash even more often if you have a cold.

Effective handwashing takes soap, water and friction. Teach your children these three key steps:

  1. Wash with soap and water, rubbing hands together quickly for at least 10 seconds. Rub backs of hands and between fingers, too.
  2. Rinse well while rubbing hands together.
  3. Dry thoroughly. Damp hands help bacteria grow.

For an illustrated Parenting Information sheet entitled "Wash Your Hands" call Children's Resource Center at (206) 526-2201.

Dress for Warmth
During wintry weather and snow play, here are some ways to keep yourself and your children warm:
  • Dress in layers: wool and some synthetics (such as polypropylene) are best for keeping warm and dry.
  • Protect head, hands and feet with hat, gloves and socks.
  • Wear boots and warm socks for snow play, and don't rely on uninsulated rubber boots for warmth.
  • Apply petroleum jelly, diaper cream or other lubricating cream to exposed areas of the face to prevent chapping.
  • Remember that children become chilled sooner than adults.

Special Thanks

  • To the Navy wives and CK Kiwanis for our wonderful Holiday party!
  • To Cheryl Davies and Windy Jackson for the donation of clothes.
  • To the Soropotomists and 1st National Bank of Port Orchard for all the great knitted hats, sweaters, and blankets.
  • To each and every one who brought in gifts for the center - thay will be put to good use!
  • The O.T./P.T. Dept. wants to thank those of you who donated toys to HRC this year, especially the Lougheed family who, although their son has graduated, continue to give generously.
  • To Pat Pardee for helping with all the little projects, and fixing what's broken
  • To all the parents who have brought in juice, crackers, and peanut butter for snacks -- we can still use more juice -- please!
