The
following questions and answers may help you understand our
organization a bit more. Please feel free to contact us by email if we
can answer any additional questions or address any concerns.
- What
is Rainbow?
Rainbow is an organization for girls ages 11 - 20
who serve the community and gain leadership skills.
- Is
Rainbow a cult?
No. Rainbow is a club, like girl scouts or campfire,
that is related to such groups as the Masons and Shriners.
- What
kind of service do you do?
Community service such as serving a meal for a
function; handing out programs for a community concert or play;
making decorations for shelters, nursing homes, assisted living,
etc.; a flag tribute for a patriotic function; helping at blood
drives; and so forth.
- How
do you raise money for service or to support the assemblies?
Each assembly has fundraisers that work for them.
Some examples are car washes, breakfasts, candy sales, magazine
sales, bazaars and Christmas wreath or swag sales. Our assembly
also has a concession stand at our annual county fair at which we
sell fish and chips.
- Is
Rainbow for all girls?
Yes, it is an option available to all girls aged 11
- 20.
- Is
Rainbow a secret organization?
No, the ritual is in the Public Library for anyone
to read. There are, however, signs and words known only to a
Rainbow Girl.
- What
is the ritual and why do you have one?
The ritual is a book of ceremonies written by Rev.
W. Mark Sexton that are commonly used for regular meetings.
Rainbow girls also enjoy writing their own ceremonies to honor
special people such as their mothers or for special events.
- Is
it expensive?
No. If you choose to spend a lot of money on dresses
that is your choice, but it is certainly not a requirement. Using
dresses that other girls have outgrown or shopping at the thrift
stores can help cut down on spending so much. The usual expenses
are for field trips, state conventions, pizza after meetings and
annual dues. There are also assembly fundraisers to help the girls
out when needed. In addition, our sponsoring organizations have
set up scholarship funds to which our girls can apply to assist
them with their college or vocational education.
- What
is Grand Assembly?
Grand Assembly is the annual state(s)-wide meeting
usually lasting 3 - 4 days at the end of June. Grand Assembly is
the same as the individual assemblies except that there are state
officers (Grand Officers) who run the meetings. In addition to the
meetings, there are competitions for the girls such as scrapbook,
ritual, sports and talent.
- Who
runs Rainbow?
One of the important aspects of Rainbow is that
events are organized and run by the members. Our advisors only
advise. It is the girls' responsibility for the activities and our
financial well being.
- Is
Rainbow religious?
Rainbow is based on the Old Testament of the Bible
and teaches you the importance of being religious; but it does not
dictate which or any church you should be affliated with.
- Who
can attend Rainbow meetings?
Any Rainbow Girl; parents, guardians and
grandparents of active Rainbow Girls; majority members of Rainbow;
and members in good standing of Eastern Star, Amaranth or the
Masonic Lodge.
- How
do I become a member of Rainbow?
Express your interest to any member or advisor. That
person will then obtain an application form for you to fill out,
and a meeting will be scheduled for a committee to answer any
questions you and your family may have.
